NEWBORNS + BABIES

Life changes in an instant the moment a baby is born. I’ve been there myself so I know how amazing the experience is and also how raw emotions can be in those early days.

Perhaps you’re thinking of getting photos taken of your baby, but you’re not sure when the right time would be and you’re not so keen on super-posed shots. You want photos of the tender early moments of your child’s life, but you want to make sure that the photographer you choose will be sensitive to your family’s needs and respectful of the myriad emotions that arrive in those early days. Above all else, you want photos that capture the wonder and amazement that is felt when a new life is welcomed into the world. If this sounds like you, then we would probably be a good fit!

You have several options:

  • I can be “on call” to photograph your baby and new family in the hospital or birth center in the first hours of his or her life. (You will never get those first hours back, so I highly recommend doing this!)
  • I can come to your home a few days after your baby is born.
  • We can arrange several visits to document the baby’s first year, including a maternity session and periodic sessions throughout the first year.

Newborn and baby sessions typically last 1-2 hours. Rates start at $300.

I also offer year-long packages in which I will visit you regularly over the course of a year and document the everyday details of your life as your family grows and changes. Visit the One Year :: One Family gallery for more details.

“Having a baby was the most magical, surreal experience of my life, and while my husband and I had big plans to document it from start to finish, we were so completely overwhelmed with actually LIVING the moment that we barely took a moment to capture any of it. I’m so happy I’d arranged beforehand to have Darrah come snap some intimate photos of my new family at the hospital, because she took all the pictures I had wanted and didn’t have the time (or, honestly, the talent) to do myself. She was so unobtrusive that I look back on the photos now and can’t even remember her taking some of the shots she got. The images she took of my little Everly in her first few hours will be treasured forever–what they say is true, and you do forget how tiny and precious your babe once was. Make sure to get photos of every beautiful stage along the way!” ~ Chelsea & David

I have had the honor of photographing lots of babies on their first days or even hours of life. Here is peek at a newborn session I did for my dear friends Josh and Emily just hours after they welcomed their son, Leo, to the world.
