slice of life tuesday: artist date

Slice of Life Tuesday is a place to share photos that were taken in the previous week and that capture ordinary moments in extraordinary ways. Every Tuesday, I will post a photo from my daily life and ask for you to do the same. It is sometimes difficult to make time for creativity, but this is a simple and low-key way for all of us to take a moment out of our daily lives for ourselves. Even if you take only one photo the previous week, you’ve done something for yourself. Don’t have a camera handy when you need it? Cell phone photos are welcome here! The photos don’t have to be perfect. They don’t have to be pretty. They just have to be.

photographed with nikon d40I recently went on a date with an artist. We went to Green Lake, people watched, soaked in the sun, and drew in our sketch pads. It was a lovely day – just what the doctor ordered after all my kvetching about not having enough time for creativity.

The artist I went on a date with was me.

On my artist date, I observed all of these things over the course of about 15 minutes.

Have you taken time for yourself recently? This week, take yourself out on a date – maybe even an artist date – and report back to this post. Grab your sketch pad or your camera or your journal and document what you notice around you. Even if you just have 15 minutes, do yourself a favor and give yourself that time. It’s amazing how rejuvenating just 15 minutes alone with your imagination can be!

I took myself on a performing artist’s date once – it resulted in strange looks, me half naked in a fountain, and police.

Wait, no, that wasn’t me…not me at all…

You’ve inspired me. I think I need an artist date soon.
